Our lives are full of activities! Yet when we have planned something specific or we’re working towards a goal, if it doesn’t happen when we have planned it, how we planned it, or, if anything happens and causes the goal/objective to be delayed, it is likely to be labelled as a FAILURE!
Yet what if we REFRAMED our thinking and thought of it as a lesson, a learning or even a time to pause?
I have actually learned so much about myself since the brain injury in 2010! It took COVID-19 to shake up my thoughts and wake me from the prison I had placed myself in, in my head!
I chose to view the anxiety, fear, helplessness, loneliness, and suicidal thoughts as reasons and triggers to stand up and stand out of my head!
I refused to see myself as a failure!
I chose to lean and depend on my belief in God and find a way of using this life-transforming experience for GOoD!
This experience was a ‘pause’…an intentional delay that I am now using as my platform to blog, speak and encourage more and more people…that YOU are NOT A FAILURE, and to CHOOSE to REFRAME your thoughts concerning that situation!
You may be working towards a promotion, but it keeps getting delayed! Instead of seeing this as a failure, consider what you can learn during this time. Perhaps you can develop new skills, build stronger relationships with colleagues, or gain a deeper understanding of your role.
OR
Suppose you’ve set a particular goal and something has set you back!
Instead of viewing this as a failure, use the time to re-focus, re-plan and jumpstart your actions!
This way, you’ll be better prepared and potentially even more capable than before!
Hence these periods of delay are not wasted time! They are NOT an indication of your worth or capabilities!!!
They are opportunities to pause...and grow!
This mind-shift released the tension and overwhelm I have been feeling at different stages of my life! It has allowed me to focus on each step (of healing and) progress I was actually making…no matter how small and no matter how long it was taking!
Everyone’s story is different!
Just like everyone’s timeframe (everything that happens in one’s life…) is different!!
Affirmations
Affirmations can reinforce a positive mindset. They did for me…and they can for you!
Here are three #IChoose statements to use as daily affirmations:
1. *#IChoosePatience* – I choose patience, trusting that my journey is unfolding daily as it should.
2. *#IChooseProgress* – I choose to celebrate my progress, no matter how small or big, as I am heading in the right direction.
3.#IChoose to view any and all interruptions in my progress as delays and not failures!
Conclusion
Mistaking a delay for a failure is a common experience, but it’s a perspective that can be changed. By embracing patience and ultimately reframing negative thoughts, we can transform delays into opportunities for growth, still pursue and achieve our goals!
Don't stop! Dont't give up! and refuse to be anxious!
Whether you’re recovering from a brain injury or facing any other life challenge, remember that each step forward is a victory!!
