When Giving Up Feels Easier...

There are some weeks we begin with energy.
And there are other weeks we begin with honesty.
What do I mean?...
Honesty that says:
I am trying.
I am tired.
I am still believing.
I am still showing up.
I am still taking the next step, even when giving up appears easier.
That is why today’s gratitude statement means so much to me:
I am grateful for God’s grace because it gives me the strength to take the next step when giving up feels easier.
This is not just a nice sentence.
For me, it is personal.
There have been moments in my life when continuing did not feel simple. Moments when I had to fight for clarity, memory, confidence, direction, and the courage to believe that my story was not finished.
After experiencing a brain injury, I came to understand that moving forward is not always about motivation. Sometimes it is about support. Sometimes it is about structure. Sometimes it is about remembering what matters when your mind feels tired. Sometimes it is about taking one small step, then another, then another.
And sometimes, it is simply about grace.
Grace to pause without shame.
Grace to try again without condemning yourself.
Grace to ask for help.
Grace to admit, “This is hard, but I am still here.”
Grace to continue when starting over feels tempting.
Grace to take the next step when giving up feels easier.
Ephesians 6:10 reminds us:
“Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”
That verse does not say, “Be strong in yourself.”
It does not say, “Have everything figured out.”
It does not say, “Never feel tired, never feel overwhelmed, never feel like stopping.”
It says: Be strong in the Lord.
That matters to me because there are times when my own strength has not felt enough. There are times when I have had to lean on God’s strength, not because I had no faith, but because I am human. Because life can be heavy. Because healing can be layered. Because responsibility can be demanding. Because rebuilding confidence, consistency, and follow-through can take more than willpower.
And still, grace says:
You are not finished!
You are not forgotten!
You are not alone!
Take the next step!
This is where gratitude becomes more than a feeling.
Gratitude becomes a decision to notice what is still carrying us.
Today, I am grateful for God’s grace
because it continues to meet me in real life.
Not in a perfect life.
Not in an easy life.
Not in a life where everything goes exactly to plan.
But in the everyday places where I need Him most.
In the moments when I need patience.
In the moments when I need courage.
In the moments when I need focus.
In the moments when I need to remember.
In the moments when I need to follow through.
In the moments when I need to keep going.
Sometimes we think giving up will bring relief.
But often, what we really need is not to give up.
We need to breathe.
We need to pause.
We need to pray.
We need to simplify the next step.
We need to stop demanding the whole staircase when God is simply lighting the next place to put our foot.
That is what I am choosing this week.
Not pressure.
Not perfection.
Not shame.
Not starting over again and again.
I am choosing the next step.
The faithful step.
The honest step.
The possible step.
The grace-covered step
that covers me and says...
continue...everything will work out for my good!
Because continuing does not always look dramatic.
Sometimes continuing looks like getting out of bed and trying again.
Sometimes it looks like sending the message.
Sometimes it looks like making the call.
Sometimes it looks like writing the plan down because memory needs support.
Sometimes it looks like asking someone to stand with you.
Sometimes it looks like choosing not to abandon what still matters.
And that is powerful.
So as this week begins, I am reminding myself and anyone who needs this:
You do not have to have everything sorted today.
You do not have to feel strong every moment.
You do not have to pretend that giving up has never crossed your mind.
But you can receive grace.
You can be strengthened in the Lord.
You can take the next step.
And you can keep going.
Today, I am grateful for God’s grace.
Because when giving up feels easier, His grace gives me strength to continue.
#IChoose the next step and keep going.
With Gratitude
Annabel
