I Choose to Create the Supporting Conditions
“This isn’t about trying harder. It’s about being kinder to your brain.”
There was a time when every forgotten appointment, missed detail, or moment of mental fog left me asking the same question:
“What’s wrong with me?”
"Why me?"
Maybe you’ve asked yourself something similar.
Perhaps you’ve forgotten something important, started something you never finished,
walked into a room and forgotten why, or ended another day wondering why following through felt harder than it should!
I’ve been there.
For a long time, I thought my memory was the problem.
But during a conversation with my own coach, she gently challenged the story I had been telling myself.
She helped me realise that I wasn’t simply frustrated by what I couldn’t remember.
I had quietly started believing that forgetting made me less capable.
That conversation changed the way I see my brain.
One of life’s greatest gifts is having people who care enough to lovingly challenge the stories we tell ourselves.
Because the truth is this:
Trying harder isn’t always the answer.
Sometimes, being kinder to your brain is.
Today, I ask a different question.
“What supporting conditions could I create today that would give my brain another opportunity tomorrow?”
That one question has changed how I live.
I no longer expect my brain to carry everything on its own.
Instead, I intentionally create supporting conditions.
A routine.
A reminder.
A conversation.
Time to think.
A coach.
A journal.
Technology.
Community.
These aren’t signs of weakness.
They are signs of wisdom.
Every supporting condition gives my brain another opportunity to remember what matters.
Another opportunity to begin or begin again.
Another opportunity to follow through.
Another opportunity to become the person I know I can be.
I’ve learned that reliability is rarely a measure of character.
More often, it reflects the supporting conditions we have built around ourselves.
This isn’t about perfection.
It isn’t about never forgetting.
It’s about intentionally creating the conditions that help your brain succeed more often.
Because one opportunity is good.
Countless opportunities are confidence building and life changing!
Reflection
What is one supporting condition you could create today that would set up for tomorrow?
It might be a reminder.
A five-minute planning routine.
A notebook beside your bed.
A conversation you’ve been avoiding.
Asking someone to walk alongside you.
Remember, one small change today may become the reason your tomorrow feels different.
#IChoose to create the supporting conditions that give my brain countless opportunities to remember what matters, follow through with greater reliability, and flourish.
If You Remember One Thing From This Blog…
Your brain doesn’t need more pressure.
It needs compassionate, intentional supporting conditions that create countless opportunities to remember what matters, follow through with greater reliability, and flourish.
