I Am Grateful That I Can Yawn! Yes!

Sometimes the most extraordinary things are the ones we do every day without ever thinking about or even noticing!

For Example, have you yawned today?

It’s probably not something you’ve ever thought to be grateful for.

To be honest most of us don’t.

We simply yawn…

…and carry on.

It’s one of those everyday moments that feels so ordinary

and we barely even notice it when it happens.

Yet the more I’ve reflected on gratitude,

the more I’ve realised something.

The things we overlook

are often the very things quietly reminding us

that our bodies are working incredibly hard on our behalf.

Every second.

Every minute.

Every hour of every day.

Without asking for recognition.

Without applause.

Without us even thinking about it.

That has made me wonder…

How many gifts do we miss

simply because they happen so often?

Whether you’ve had a brain injury,

you’re rebuilding after an illness,

living with ADHD, raising a family,

leading a team, studying,

caring for someone you love,

or simply trying to keep up with the demands of everyday life…

Right now, as you read these words,

your body is doing thousands of remarkable things without asking anything of you in return.

Your heart is beating.

Your lungs are breathing

Your eyes are blinking.

Your immune system is protecting you.

Your brain and body

are working together in ways you’ll probably never fully appreciate.

A yawn may seem insignificant.

Yet for me, it has become another reminder.

A reminder that so much of what keeps us going happens beyond our awareness.

And perhaps that’s exactly why gratitude matters.

Not because gratitude changes what our bodies do.

But because it changes what we notice.

When we begin noticing the ordinary miracles

we’ve previously overlooked,

something remarkable happens.

We become a little less rushed.

A little less entitled.

A little more present.

A little more amazed.

And perhaps… a little kinder to ourselves.

I’ve come to believe that gratitude isn’t only about appreciating life’s biggest moments.

It’s about recognising that some of life’s greatest gifts arrive quietly.

Without announcement.

Without applause.

Without us even realising they were there.

Perhaps that’s why gratitude changes us.

Not because our circumstances suddenly become perfect.

But because our attention begins to notice what has always been present.

Today…

I am grateful that I can yawn

Because it reminds me that my brain and body are working together

in ways I rarely stop to appreciate.

And I can’t help wondering…

Ponder:

How many extraordinary gifts have we mistaken for ordinary, simply because they’ve always been there?

Reflection

Before today ends…

Pause for just sixty seconds.

Notice three ordinary things your body has done for you today.

Then simply say,

“Thank you.”

You might be surprised how quickly gratitude changes what you notice.

#IChooseTo notice the ordinary.

#IChooseTo appreciate what quietly sustains me.

#IChooseTo see what I once overlooked.

#IChooseTo Follow It Through.

Together.

I love this perspective of gratitude!
